Central road fund scheme was introduced in Jammu & Kashmir in the year 2000-01 with the aim to develop and maintain National Highways, State roads (particularly those of economic importance and which provides inter-state connectivity), rural roads, railway under/over bridges etc. Accordingly major district roads/ bridges and other district roads are drawing upon the resources allocated under Central Road & Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for construction/ upgradation.
Since the inception of program 293 projects including 60 bridges have been approved with sanction cost of Rs 4300 cr against which Rs.1625 cr has been spent ending March 2020. Presently 97 projects have been completed which includes 24 bridges as well. 11 projects were accomplished during 2019-20. The over view of the programme is under
